Right to Life Poster Contest
Overview of the Annual Poster Contest
Each year, to commemorate the January 22, 1973, Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade, St. Joseph School and the Parish School of Religion (PSR) co-host a poster contest. The central theme of this contest is the right to life, emphasizing respect for human dignity from birth to natural death. Through this initiative, both the school and the parish reaffirm their commitment to promoting the sanctity of human life within the community.
Judging Process and Involvement
The Knights of Columbus play a key role in supporting this event, collaborating closely with the PSR Director, Beth Peirron, and the Right to Life Chairman, Alex Joiner. Together, they carefully review all student submissions and select the top three posters from each grade level. These selected entries are chosen for their exceptional representation of the contest’s life-affirming message.
The Knights who participate in this process are volunteers driven by a strong dedication to shaping the culture of the church and the broader community. Their active involvement in this and similar programs demonstrates their commitment to fostering a faith-based perspective on human existence, in accordance with God’s plan for humanity.
Recognition and Awards
After identifying the top three posters in each grade level, the Knights undertake the challenging task of choosing one overall winner. However, the greatest rewards come from the experiences gained by all students and teachers involved. By engaging in the creative process, participants reflect deeply on the value of life and contribute to a positive environment that celebrates these principles.
The Right to Life Banquet will be held on January 31, 2026, following the 5:00 PM Saturday evening vigil Mass. During this event, students and their parents will be honored with a dinner prepared by the Knights of Columbus. All participants and grade-level winners will be recognized, and prizes will be awarded to the creators of the top posters in each grade, as well as the overall winner.
Unity and Community Impact
Collaborating with fellow Knights serves as a reminder of Blessed Michael McGivney's vision for the Knights of Columbus, especially the foundational principle of unity. His belief that “none of us is as good alone as all of us are together” is evident in the teamwork displayed by the Knights, the PSR director, and the teachers and staff of St. Joseph School. Their joint efforts not only promote the Right to Life Poster Contest but also foster a Christ-centered atmosphere for students, parishioners, and the wider community.
