Knights of Columbus Council #4874

Welcome to Fr. Vander Hayden Knights of Columbus council 4874. On November 15, 1959, having been petitioned by a group of Catholic men to organize a Knights of Columbus council in Ponchatoula LA, the Supreme Council granted a Charter to operate and maintain a permanent council in Ponchatoula La. That small group of Catholic men, united in the belief of Blessed Michael McGivney’s founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity are the foundation council 4874 is built on. Including the fourth-degree principle of patriotism, Council 4874 continues to embody the founding principles of the Knights of Columbus. Our shared mission continues to be one of service to God, family, Church Parish and our small but growing community of Ponchatoula La. We encourage all Catholic men of our Parish to join us in this vibrant council and continue the work Blessed Michael McGivney envisioned for the Knights of Columbus at it’s founding in 1882.

--Jn 14:17--

Reflection.

The Holy Spirit does not remain inactive in us; He wipes away sins, purifies hearts, revivifies the tepid, and enlightens the ignorant. His inspirations suggest to us what we ought and what we ought not to do. There exists an infinite variety of His communications.

--St. Anthony of Padua--

Prayer.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the heart of Your servant and kindle in me the fire of Your love.

A man gave a sumptuous banquet, to which he sent out many invitations.

--Lk 14:16--

Reflection.

I am afraid when Jesus passes by. For His passing by means salvation if we respond to it but is a reason for condemnation if we pay no attention to it. Every invitation on the part of Jesus can be termed a passing by of the Lord.

--St. Augustine--

Prayer.

Almighty Father, enlighten my eyes and open my heart to discern Your Son's "passing by." Let me respond promptly and wholeheartedly to His invitations addressed to me every day.

The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

--Jn 6:64--

Reflection.

Make sure that you never spurn the Savior's words. They have in themselves such tremendous majesty that they can instill fear into those who have wandered from the path of righteousness, whereas they ever remain a great solace to those who heed them.

--St. Justin the Martyr--

Prayer.

Lord Jesus, let me daily take to heart and ponder Your words. Grant that they may lead me to penance and also provide needed consolation amid the troubles of life.

If I . . . do not have love, it profits me nothing.

--Sir 11:24--
