Knights of Columbus Council #4874

Welcome to Fr. Vander Hayden Knights of Columbus council 4874. On November 15, 1959, having been petitioned by a group of Catholic men to organize a Knights of Columbus council in Ponchatoula LA, the Supreme Council granted a Charter to operate and maintain a permanent council in Ponchatoula La. That small group of Catholic men, united in the belief of Blessed Michael McGivney’s founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity are the foundation council 4874 is built on. Including the fourth-degree principle of patriotism, Council 4874 continues to embody the founding principles of the Knights of Columbus. Our shared mission continues to be one of service to God, family, Church Parish and our small but growing community of Ponchatoula La. We encourage all Catholic men of our Parish to join us in this vibrant council and continue the work Blessed Michael McGivney envisioned for the Knights of Columbus at it’s founding in 1882.

Suddenly, a great storm came up on the lake, so...that the boat was being swamped by the waves. But Jesus was sleeping....

--Mt 8:24--

Reflection.

It is impossible to go through life without trials, because trials are the natural proofs of faith. Like watchful mariners, we should be sure to awaken the Pilot of our ship. Those who allow themselves to be over-come by fear while in the company of Jesus deserve to be reproached by Him. For all who are united with Him cannot perish.

We must carry out the Will of God rather than our own. Thhis is what we pledge to do in the "Our Father," which we recite every day. What a travesty it would be if after praying that God's Will be done we should carry out that Will halfheartedly and only because we are obliged to do so!

Prayer.

Lord Jesus, help me to avoid finding fault with others. Let me strive instead to discover my own faults and seek to correct them as fast as I can.

The temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

--1 Cor 3:17--

Reflection.

When Christ came, He banished the devil from our hearts, in order to build in them a temple for Himself. Let us then do what we can with His help, so that our evil deeds will not deface that temple.

--St. Caesarius of Arles--

Prayer.

Lord Jesus, help me to be a true temple of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Grant me the grace to keep this temple holy and pleasing to You all my days.

" 'You shall love the Lord your God. . . .' This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as your-self.' "

--Mt 22: 37-38--

Reflection.

If we love our neighbor, we automatically love God as well. For it is in the unity of this twofold love that God has constituted the fullness of the Law and the Prophets.

--St. Leo the Great--

Prayer.

Loving Father, help me to realize that love is the most powerful force in the world. Let me love You and my neighbor because of You.
